Observe the masks
we paint on our faces &
the faces of others,
with precision and guile,
absentmindedly brilliant –
holograms, gaudy shapes,
all false intimacies &
forced assumptions;
sterling efforts made
tangling tales,
glamourising frivolities
falsifying prophecies,
pound shop knock-offs
for minions & masses,
ingesting vain content,
spitting out jewels
lost in plain sight,
as we keep parading,
clowns to the pulpits,
fools as our sages,
stars lost in the night sky,
walking backwards, steadily,
straight to the gallows
of earthly oblivion.
